Bingo - a growth industry in times of trouble?

It has to be said that well know facts such as ‘retail struggles in recession’ and ‘restaurants get less of the disposable income in hard times’ is all the rage in the prepares at the moment as the media tries to scare the daylights out of us in terms of how badly the economy is doing and how long it will last. I’m not sure if the media is intent on scaring the hell out of us so that we spend less and try to pay back some debt, or if it really believes that it’s warning us to a valid and relevant issue.

Well, the good news is that Bingo is doing better than OK. In fact, online Bingo is BOOMING. It’s been said that in times of trouble, the companies that fair the worst initially are the entertainment companies. Normally that’s true, and it’s true in the Casino and Poker side this time as well.

The thing about both of those forms of entertainment is that the stakes can be rather large, if you want them to. That means that if you are worried about hard times, you probably want to decrease your ‘flutter’ and increase your debt repayment. So your Casino play suffers.

With Bingo, it doesn’t really touch sides. Many of the online bingo sites have 1p tickets, which means if you pay £1, you’d be playing for 400 minutes or more (which works out to 6 and a half hours). Is that not value for money? Where else can you get that type of value for money for £1?

Go on, find me another value for money activity like that, and email me!

eBay cuts jobs

Well, it seems the credit crunch is hitting many sites as we speak – including the hugely successful eBay. About 10% of staff US staff so far, and it seems some in the UK are set to be made redundant too. Whilst doing that, it also happens to be spending money on buying other companies in Denmark, and the States.

What’s amusing is the discussion regarding the possibility of the staffers actually putting themselves on eBay auction for jobs – how interesting would that be to watch, and isn’t that the epitome of ‘free market’ ?

Better yet – is it legal? It’s no different from the ‘highest bidder’ that most people come for. That’s what the job market is about. People take the highest paying job, and move for the same reason.

So, does that also mean that Bingo is like an auction offering?

You bid for a ticket, and the ‘bidder’ with the most correct balls wins? I guess you could think of it that way, but it’s a bit of a stretch really, and not fair to Bingo sites, as they offer so much more than that to players.

I am a man and my name Username is Rachel

I read an article that said that male bingo players prefer to use female names when playing Bingo, fearing being teased if friends or family knew that they were online playing. Well, I have thought about this for a while now, and I HAVE to hope that times have changed and this statement is not true. Surely things have got better?

Surely with the metrosexual type male, and the advances in Gay rights, female advancement, and equal rights, things are different online? I mean it’s the cutting edge of technology, the internet, it’s the future, it’s where all the ‘hip’ people go, those ‘in the know’ etc…. Surely on the Internet you can be who you really are???

Well, apparently not in Bingo. Apparently there are still some bastions of society that the glass ceiling has to break – in reverse. Now stick with me here, it’s well known that the Corporate world has a glass ceiling for woman. No matter how much people shout and scream that it doesn’t exist – it does. So, is it reverse gender politics allowing for the ridiculing of men that play and actually enjoy online Bingo here in full force?

Is it women trying to get their own back?

I don’t think so, because the data and research done by St Minver suggests that men fear ridicule from friends, and for that reason they disguise their real identity – so it’s a social thing, not a gender thing, and I’m glad about that. Personally, I love having men in the online Bingo chat rooms. They add a great dimension to the chat, often are crisp and witty in their remarks, and often bring a fun sense of humour to the rooms, that woman just don’t have.

So bring on the guys, play Bingo with them, and enjoy the offering they provide, the insight they often have, and the competitive element they sometimes display. Sometimes a change is as good as a holiday!

Opportunity finds the gap

A clever, sassy and intelligent girl of 26 , called Missy Mouser (honest, that’s her real name) , has found a gap in the bingo Halls, and created a free Bingo publication, for bingo Hall players who have a bit of free time on their hands while waiting for the game to begin.

She fills the publication with bingo players’ profiles, crosswords, fun information and Bingo news from the hall. They all seem to love the magazine, and they are glad that it’s available for free too.

Missy started off small, and now she distributes over 18000 of these free magazines to all the bingo players she can.

Well done Missy! You saw a gap and took, it, and that’s the kind of girl we like in our Bingo community!

Mini Games inside of Bingo

I spent the day playing the mini games in the Bingo site that I play regularly. Some of them I love, and some of them I just don’t get. There is no doubt that the Clover Roll-over is a must bet – or make that a max bet, because you can only win the WHOLE thing if you max bet, and it’s worth a punt once in a while if you’re going to win £1.3million! Mind you, I can’t afford to play it too much, but once or twice a month, I max bet and hang on for dear life.

Then there is Lucky Ladies 88 – a new game, and fun to watch seeing as the theme is based on my favourite game – Bingo!

I played Crystal Balls but I have no idea how that really works, and whilst I get the bingo type theme, I just don’t like it, so I’m steering clear of that one. In between that, I played a few tickets on Bingo, and won a fiver, so I could stake a few more pennies on the slots.

Then there’s Tarot fortune, and Cleopatras Chest, which I find quite good as well, and I only bet about 10p per line, but I’ve won a bit, so I’m happy.

I never really looked at these mini games before, but now that I have, I quite like the change of pace it gives me. I still enjoy chatting with my friends and playing Bingo most of all, but it’s a nice alternative option to have.

Bingo Chat Games

So, what are these Bingo Chat Games, and how do you play them?

Well, these are games that are played in the Bingo Chat rooms, whilst the Bingo numbers are being a called out. For example, one bingo chat game is called Birthday Bingo.

It works like this:

Birthday Bingo
Each player shouts out their birthday in the chat room in the format DD MM YY (e.g. 01/02/65). The CM will record the birthday of everyone who shouts it out in the chat room. When the caller calls all 3 numbers of a player’s birthday they must shout “It’s my birthday” or “Birthday” and their date. Players with two numbers the same in their birthday (e.g. 05/05/65) must pick another number to make the game fair.

There are many other games that they play online in the bingo chat rooms, just a few are called ‘Blast from the Past’, ‘Guess Who?’ , ‘ I-Spy’ , and ‘Quote me Silly’.

If you’d like to read more, go to the Community section of Home of Bingo, and read up on the Bingo Chat games, so you know what to do when they play them.

Have fun!

Are you feeling ‘crunched’?

The credit crunch is hurting people in different ways. The internet is sprouting all kinds of ’How to Beat the Crunch’ articles, and eth voucher code sites have never does so well. But reading the general stories about people at the (so called) rough end, are doing all the normal necessary things.

Less eating out ( I can’t afford to eat out so I’m not feeling too sad for them).

I even read, “Ann has successfully reduced her weekly food shop from £80 to around £20 by hanging supermarkets and being more thrifty.” – I guess she’s single then!

Some of the things she cut out were fillet steak (shame) and Organic wine (ditto). What she did say, was that the shops discount their food just before they close – which I didn’t know, and make sense for the perishables. Maybe I should go have a look at the shops later at night then.

Anyway, the £5 I spend on Bingo every two weeks is not going to be cut out of my budget. Hours of fun and friendship for £5 is more than worth it, and what is Organic wine anyway???
